Nope. Sir Alex has put him back with the 1st team!! Smile

Owen Hargreaves has been handed a boost by manager Sir Alex Ferguson after he pulled him out of the reserves to train with United's first team.

The 29-year-old was scheduled to continue his comeback from major knee surgery with another appearance for the second string against Burnley at Accrington.

He played his first game for 18 months in the reserves against the Clarets last week but will not be joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side tonight.

"Owen won't play for the reserves tonight," Ferguson told www.manutd.com.

"He's going to be training with the first team and we'll see where that takes him.

"We're keen to get him back involved because he's an experienced player and will be a valuable addition for us in the run-in, when having a strong, fit squad is vital."

Hargreaves is only eligible for the Barclays Premier League as he was not registered for the Champions League knockout phase because of uncertainty over his recovery.

And the player himself has admitted there were times during his long fight for fitness that he wondered whether he would ever play again.

"It is only human to think that way," he said.

"The longest injury before that was when I broke my leg at Bayern Munich and I was out for a couple of months.

"Football is a physical game and injuries are part of it. But I could never imagine having one that has impacted on me so much.

"I thought - everyone thought - I would be fit for the start of the season. It didn't materialise.

"It has been a pretty humbling experience and I am sure many people doubted me, but anybody who knows me, knows that what I set my mind to, I get."

Renowned Colorado-based surgeon Dr Richard Steadman told the midfielder his knees were in a worse state than he had ever come across in 35 years of practising.

And, although Hargreaves has reported a vast improvement, he still experiences discomfort and there is a chance he will never be fully clear of the problem.

"I wouldn't say I am pain-free and I don't know if I can play through it," he said.

"My training has improved over the last weeks and that is a very positive sign for me. I believe that it will continue to improve and progress.

"But I am still in the process of getting some injections to try to manage the pain because if I didn't have any I would have played at the beginning of the season."

Looks like Hargo wont be playing this season

Fergie drops Owen hint
Midfielder may not return until next season

Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted he will not blood Owen Hargreaves back into his first-team amid reports he will not play for Manchester United this season.

The Canada-born England international has not played for the Red Devils since September 2008 after undergoing surgery on both knees but has been gradually stepping up his rehabilitation in recent months.

Hargreaves was part of United's squad that lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea recently and it was expected that he would feature between now and the summer.

However, Ferguson has done little to quash reports that Hargreaves will not return until next season by hinting he has more than enough options currently vying for midfield places.

"It is difficult to say when Owen will be back; he is training well and I had him in the squad for the Chelsea game," stated Ferguson.

"His training performances have been fine but I think at the moment midfield is not an issue for us because we have plenty of alternatives."

Eye for goal

Meanwhile, the vastly-experienced Scottish tactician has praised the goals output of Darron Gibson, who took his season tally to six after scoring against Bayern Munich last week.

Ferguson believes it would be unwise to ignore Gibson's goal-scoring prowess and has likened the 22-year-old's ability to find the back to the net to that of Paul Scholes.
United's long-serving manager believes with more regular first-team football the Republic of Ireland international could make a telling contribution from midfield.

"You saw Gibson's performance against Bayern Munich," he said. "That was his sixth goal of the season [in all competitions] and you cannot dismiss that.

"It is the kind of contribution we used to get from Paul Scholes. He used to get me 12 to 14 goals from midfield all the time and we haven't had a player like that in a while.

"Who is to say if Gibson had been playing all the time where he would be in terms of goals? But he is getting recognition now and even the players are commenting on how much he has improved."

Injury-hit Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves to pay fresh visit to knee specialist

Quote:Injury-plagued Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has paid a fresh visit to knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman, according to the Daily Star.

The 29-year-old has seen his career with the Red Devils and England wrecked in the last two years by tendonitis in both knees. Despite only playing one minute last term, he was considered an outside bet to be named in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad before Sir Alex Ferguson ruled him out of the summer tournament.

The ex-Bayern Munich man has now travelled to the world-renowned surgeon in Colorado, USA for a check-up on the problem. Thankfully for his club, he is not expected to go under the knife again and should feature in pre-season.

Sadly for Hargreaves, it looks like he is going to miss pre-season due to injury. I feel really bad for him. I hope he gets fit soon.
