Another New Sponsor - Noucamp99 - 23-01-2010

Some better or even good news reported on the BBC, though:

Manchester United have signed a sponsorship deal with Turkish Airlines, the club has confirmed.

The three and a half year contract will see the airline replace Air Asia as the team's official carrier.

Manchester United said it was a multi-million pound deal, but have not released the exact financial details.

It comes a day after accounts showed that the club's debts had risen to £716m. It is also proposing to raise £500m in a bond issue.

The accounts of Manchester United's parent group Red Football Joint Venture also showed that the club's sponsorship income had grown 48% over the past year, not including the £80m shirt deal with American finance group Aon that takes effect next season.

Turkish Airlines, which operates flights from Manchester Airport, carried 25.1 million passengers last year.

It employs more than 12,000 people and is a member of the Star Alliance grouping of airlines that also includes United Airlines, BMI and Lufthansa.

Welcoming the deal, David Gill said:

“We are delighted to have secured a long term partnership with Turkish Airlines. This deal is yet another indication of the global appeal of Manchester United and we are very pleased to welcome them to the Club.”

Richard Arnold, MU Director of Commercial, added:

“We are really looking forward to working with Turkish Airlines. We have been very impressed by their ambition and the creative marketing strategy they are developing for the relationship.”

Hamdi Topçu, the chairman of Turkish Airlines Inc., said:

“Turkish Airlines places great importance on this sponsorship deal and I have the utmost confidence that the partnership will make a great contribution to Turkish Airlines' brand value.

“Turkish Airlines is very pleased to be nominated as the official carrier of one of the most reputable football teams in the world and I believe that the partnership will be of benefit to both parties.”

At least this has generated some financial investment, but I wonder if the Glazers have taken all sponsor payments up-front, as with the Aon money? And, has it all gone in their pockets?

Is it true that Easy Jet sponsored liverpool in the Champion's league this year.
They claimed they could get them in and out of europe in record time.

They are well out (and if they dont finish in the top four they wont be back.) HA
