Beat City - and we're back in it

Michael Carrick is urging United to emerge from a "tough" period and claim what could be a pivotal win in the Manchester derby this weekend.

The midfielder says the Reds have been reeling from the Champions League and the domestic slip-ups that have enabled Chelsea to open up a four-point lead in the title race, but says there's no time like 12:45 on Saturday to start making amends.

"If you drop below the high standards you’ve set in recent years and you don’t quite achieve what you’ve achieved before, then it’s a major disappointment," admits Michael.

"The way the week fell, with the two Bayern games either side of the Chelsea match, made it a double blow for us really. It’s been tough for the players, tough for everyone in the last couple of weeks because of the seasons we’ve had before.

"But it’s something we’ve got to bounce back from. We’ve just got to get on with it and finish strongly.

Too much to ask for wishing Stoke do us a favour? Highly unlikely I feel though
