Quote:The Spaniard is negotiating a new contract with Everton but with talks hitting a standstill United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could ask Toffees boss David Moyes if he would sell the 28-year-old, according to The Mirror.
Arteta still has two years remaining on his current Everton contract but a fine season has United, Arsenal and Manchester City interested in the midfielder.
Despite a strong connection with Moyes, Arteta could desire an exit from Goodison Park in order to play Champions League football next season and earn consideration for a Spain call-up.
While Ferguson would not steal a player with Arteta from his good friend Moyes, should Everton conclude that they will not be able to keep the midfielder they could let him go for about £10 million.
With Cesc Fabregas looking to return to Barcelona this summer, Arsenal believe that Arteta could replace the void left when their captain departs.
Despite City’s interest it would be unlikely that the Toffees do business with the Eastlands club after the Joleon Lescott transfer saga last summer.
