UNITED winger Nani wants boss Sir Alex Ferguson to give him assurances over his future - but he may not get them.

The Portuguese international, 22, is concerned about speculation he could be surplus to requirements.

And he will sit down with Fergie during preseason training to find out exactly where he stands.

A United source said: "Nani believes his chance has come following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, but the rumours just won't go away and he is looking for answers."

Nani has struggled to live up to expectations since his £14million move from Sporting Lisbon two seasons ago.

Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Villarreal have both been linked with moves for the player.

ManUtdPeople understands Sir Alex still thinks Nani will come good but will not stand in his way if he is unhappy.

He could even prove a valuable makeweight as the United boss pursues further attacking options.

The £18m arrival of winger Antonio Valencia from Wigan will have done little to ease Nani's fears.
Nani plays on the left side though and Valencia is right-sided?The team for me plays better without him although he did score a few cracking goals?.He just seems too selfish for me but then i suppose he is trying to impress and get a regular start in the team?.If Ronaldo was still at O.T i would definetly say let him go?But the fact that he has gone that only leaves us with Sir Ryan on the left and he is not even a winger anymore?.Ribery was the left sided player we were looking at and he wants to go to Madrid so there might be a glimmer of hope there for Nani It has to be said as well that Ronaldo was a lot like Nani in the early days so who is to say that if he did get a run in the team that he would come into his own and put in really good performances?but at this club you have to do it week in week out and then some.
nicely said

I was never his biggest fan. I think he is selfish and plays for himself and not the team but with Ronaldo gone I think we need to kepe him and still buy another winger to make sure were safe

red3636 mate have you ever heard of paragraphs lol
:HotDog:
Sorry i forgot about Tosic?he is a left winger? Will work on the paragraphs!
haha I had a dream that Tosic scored the winner V Scouse twats the other night from a free kick

Seemed so real
Lets hope thats a premenition!Stick a few bob on him scoring when we play them?(if he starts).
The thing with Nani is he seems to be a selfish player. Howver, he hasn't had a fair chance and I think if he did have a chance in the first team he may come good. He is very similar to Ronaldo when he was younger, holds onto the ball for two long but he hasn't really had many games to adapt to the English style.
I think Nani is getting the same treatment Cristiano received when he first arrived..ie selfish, too many tricks, etc. Let the boy grow Fergie. Ronaldo had the benefit of growing at a time when Chelsea and Special One were dominating. This is uncharacteristic of Fergie to be so inpatient. I mean, Forlan left and has become a prolific goal scorer. Nani should be put on the left and given a chance, he has too much potential. We forget Ronaldo took four years to get to greatness, Nani has been at United for only 2, and with limits on his playing time. Players need repetition to get to the flow. We need Nani, Rooney [middle], Valencia, tuck in Berba behind Rooney for some delicious passing, keep the same midfield unless Owen Hargreaves returns and play on.
it's up to Nani now to prove he's the quality player he seems to be.
Yes he is selfish, like Ronaldo, who went on to learn when to shoot and when to pass.Having scored a few brilliant goals from outside the box,he seems to think they will all go in.I'm sure sir Alex will sort that out this season as i'm sure he will get more games now that Ronaldo has gone. But if he does not learn and play as a team player this season,he'll be on his way for sure.
Saturday's game ,i'm looking forward to see how this new look United side shapes up.Friendly or not.
I cant wait for it to start!!!
