Thanks for sharing mate.
A true valuable lesson.
Good to finally know the answer to this..

I came close to calling a person petty on a 606 thread for critisizing another.
Glad I decided otherwise now.

well why this is most true, i still will say man u!
(17-03-2009, 07:11 PM)ManUtdPeople Wrote: [ -> ]ManU is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "ManU" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"ManU ManU went on a plane ManU ManU never came back again"

and..

"ManU Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").

I hope this makes it clearer that saying manU is an insult, particularly to the older supporters and to see United fans using it now is shameful. I hope a few might read this, understand and spread the word.

So... Please REFRAIN from using this term ever again!
i call us unted or manchester utd never man 'u'

if you keep saying this after reading tis you are a complete twat and don't deserve to be a united fan
Thank you for sharing, will never say/write Man U again. After this.
spot on mateSmile
i heard this at the club a long while ago,

i call us united or man united, is ok?
Never knew that!! Have been guilty of using it in the past but never again!
OK, first of all I don't call us Man-U as I know about the Munich song. But...

Seems that hardly any non-Utd fans know about this, and (as confirmed by many of the posters above), quite a large proportion of Utd fans don't either. Rather than getting offended every time we hear it (when most people don't mean offence), isn't it time we re-claimed the 'U' as our own? Like African-Americans and the 'n' word?

For the few idiots who say Man U to cause offence... they're disgusting wind-up merchant low-lifes, but by getting wound up, we're giving them what they want, surely?!
