Owen Hargreaves left Old Trafford in what appeared to be an irritated hurry after being omitted from the Manchester United squad for the weekend game against Stoke City, according to a report from The Sun.

The England international was apparently hoping for some time on the pitch in order to press his claims for a place in Fabio Capello's squad for this summer's World Cup in South Africa.

However, the report claims that the star left Old Trafford at 3.10pm in his grey Audi on Sunday afternoon in something of a rush.

The official reason given by United for his departure was illness.

Hargreaves was omitted from England's provisional 30-man squad for the World Cup on Tuesday, with Capello opting instead to include Manchester City's Gareth Barry, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

For a start he would have known before Sunday that he wasn't in the squad . Secondly I doubt he ever thought he had a chance of making the world cup squad . and finally I think he knows he owes united and should be doing all he can to be ready for next season .

Spot on. I think the days of the team sheet being pinned to the wall in the morning of the match are long gone!! There is much more psychology involved in football these days. I bet it wasn't even him, just some look-a-like! Remember, the report was in the Sun!!!!
