Has anyone watched first round world cup qualification playoff matches? Yesterday, Ukraine defeated France by 2-0 and it looks like France is almost eliminated. Notably, in the other match, Portugal defeated Sweden by 1-0.

France's form has been deteriorating ever since Zidane retired. They've not been impressive since then and from the few matches I've watched them, it would be better for them to get eliminated so that a stronger European team proceeds to the world cup in Brazil. I'm all for competitiveness. France isn't good anymore and staying in the cold for four years would force them to up their game, get rid of the old players they don't want to let go and things might work for them.
