Owen For England?
#1
After The announcement that Michael Owen will not be recalled to the England squad ahead of the WCQ Fixtures against Croatia and Slovenia, I thought this thread was called for.

Will Michael Owen Ever Play For England Again?

Not yet, he should focus on his league form and stay clear of the international side for now. He plays for both and he just lacks, he needs the passion he had at liverpool but I'm starting to suspect that could of been a "young" need to "prove" something.

He's playing okay for man utd from the sound of things.

It's more important he gets back to normal in regards to playing, happiness levels and fitness.

Definitely should make the squad again, but let's see if England qualify for Africa tonight. Then, I think Postman Pat will look at his striker options. I think Wazza is a shoe in, as is Defoe. Heskey could scrape in, with Crouch, but I'm not sure if Carlton Cole would get the nod over a fit Mr Owen with a full season behind him. 4 strikers enough, though?
Of course, if the wheels really come off and England don't make the finals, then the squad will be in for a massive overhaul and that could be the end of Owen, amongst others.

so if they dont win tonight then does that mean they cant qualify, that would be bad first time in a long time they didnt qualify for two finals in a row

I don't think so. Tonight just seals it and means the boys can relax. In fact, copied and pasted from Sky Sports (who'd do such a thing): Three points will be enough to send England to South Africa, while even a point could suffice if Ukraine fail to win away in Belarus. Defeat for Croatia, and victory for Ukraine, would leave their hopes of gracing next year's showpiece on a knife-edge - with just one fixture remaining.

England have 2 games left after tonight - away v Ukraine (10th Oct) and home v Belarus (14th Oct).
