In July, one bold Gooner was so confident that the Gunners would sign Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez that he got a no.26 Arsenal shirt with the Algerian’s name on the back.

The 25-year-old inspired Leicester City to the title last season but he admitted earlier this week that he’d be tempted to leave the Foxes for ‘two or three clubs’.

Asad Balal, a long-suffering Gooner, was clearly confident that Arsene Wenger would swoop in to bring the Le Havre winger to the Emirates and even claimed to have inside information on the Algerian’s move to north London.

However, Balal was forced into an embarassing backtrack today after Mahrez signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes and he quickly took to Twitter to jokingly put his Arsenal no.26 shirt up for sale before deleting the tweet and saying he’s sending the shirt to a charity shop.

Newcastle United launched its new home shirt on Tuesday morning - and it was out of date even before it was revealed. The lender relaunched itself on Monday - but it came too late for the new Newcastle kit, which fans have accused of being "out of date"

The Puma made Magpies kit, which is available for pre-order ahead of going on sale on Thursday, is set to be worn by the team in their Survival Sunday showdown with West Ham.

But only hours before its unveiling sponsor Wonga relaunched itself with a new logo, leaving no time for the club to make changes, and so the shirts will have to carry the old branding.

A spokesman for Wonga said the that due to the lead time required to make the thousands of replica kits the club hopes fans will buy the company and the club had been unable to put the new logo on the shirts.

“It was due to the production schedule,” she said.

Fans took to social media to ridicule the seemingly embarrassing blunder.

“Only NUFC could launch a new shirt with an outdated sponsor logo on it,” said True Faith podcaster Taylor Payne.

The new kit, which goes on sale from 9am on Thursday, sees “a hint of blue, matching the scroll under the famous Newcastle United crest” added to the famous black and white stripes - though supporters have also been quick to point out that it is also the colour of the loan company’s logo.

The sleeves are predominantly white and feature a new “formstripe” design, which removes a traditional shoulder seam “to improve the fit and allow unrestricted movement,” the club said.

Quote:Chelsea have moved to ease fans’ fears about plans to potentially use artificial crowd noise to improve the atmosphere at home games after the club confirmed the idea will NOT be put into practice.

Blues chairman Bruce Buck revealed that the west London outfit will not be using the measure to increase noise levels at Stamford Bridge despite manager Jose Mourinho complaining about the issue in November.

The Portuguese tactician blasted the atmosphere during some home matches after saying playing at Chelsea’s ground was ‘like playing in an empty stadium.’
However, Buck has refuted the notion that Chelsea could record noise and play it out during games in a bid to try and solve the problem.

‘Our manager, for some reason, decided a few months ago to say that the fans were quiet at moments,’ Buck said.

‘One of the problems is it’s very difficult to get tickets when the stadium is sold out every week. It’s difficult to get young people to visit because it’s hard to buy tickets.

‘Every club is looking to improve the matchday experience, but we can’t have recorded fan noise — our fans just wouldn’t accept that.’

He added: ‘We don’t have cheerleaders; we have to do what’s right for our home environment. You have to understand your market place.’

In light of the ban, editor of The Telegraph Tony Gallagher said on Twitter: "Things at Newcastle must be worse than we thought: they have banned our reporter Luke Edwards for revealing the dressing room is split.
Newcastle sent a solicitor's letter to The Telegraph, which read as: "Having carefully considered the content of the article Newcastle United have asked for it to be made clear that unless a full apology is received from the Daily Telegraph and the article is immediately withdrawn from the Telegraph online edition, then both Luke Edwards and any representative of the Daily Telegraph/Sunday Telegraph will be banned from attending St James' Park and from attending any Newcastle United pre-match press conferences and all Newcastle United player interviews at the training facilities with immediate effect."

British-based firm Hawk-Eye has been chosen as the provider of goal-line technology for the Premier League.

The camera-based ball-tracking system was recommended as the preferred option - rather than the German alternative Goalcontrol - with a unanimous vote at a meeting of the 20 top-flight clubs.

Hawk-Eye, which was sold to technology giant Sony two years ago, already provides camera-based systems for tennis and cricket, and its equipment is now set to be in place at Premier League grounds and Wembley Stadium from next season.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "The Premier League has been a long-time advocate of Goal-line Technology, and at times it didn't look like it would be something we would be able to introduce.

"However, since FIFA took the decision to permit it we have been working hard to get a system in as soon as practically possible.

"Principally it is about getting it right. Fans, players and managers exhort, strain and stress respectively for their teams to score or prevent goals being scored, so we as administrators should do all that we can to ensure the correct decisions are being made.

"Of the four companies that are currently licensed by FIFA, Hawk-Eye stood out for their excellent track record in delivering for sport over many years."

England coach Roy Hodgson said: "Well it's the same as everyone else. We're not behind people. It's same for all European countries.

"It had to be approved by FIFA and for many years they were against it - and I can understand their opposition in one sense. It costs lots of money which means only certain countries can benefit from it.

"The major fear for FIFA has been where is it going to end - are we going to have a very different game in the future. Will game be stopped and it goes to panel of experts who will study the video and make a decision. So I can understand there's been reticence.

"But with goal-line technology there's less reason to doubt its usefulness. It's one of those momentous days that go down like changing of offside law."

Stoke chairman Peter Coates added: "I am for it, and all the other clubs are for it, and we'll see how it plays out. I am not for technology everywhere but I think, however many extra officials you have behind the goal-line, you are back to human error, unless you eliminate that.

"We want to keep it simple, and we still want plenty of controversy so I don't think we want to overdo it."

Phil Neville of all people giving Chelsea the lead with a silly backpass!!
Bloody twit!!
Unfortunate when a player runs right into a keeper and get's a penalty. But that's the way it is now, they are always called other parts of the pitch as well.
How does Drogba do it??Comes back from a broken leg, broken neck, today,a ruptured groin and scores a penalty!!!!What a player!!!How long will the commentators fall for his crap!Fed up of his pretending to be hurt!!Refs still fall for it as well...
Ian Dark is a chelsea fan it seems so no surprise there.Even talked about his bout with malaria as if that's causing his lack of goals..bias at it's best..
Hopefully Everton can step up a gear and get a goal back....
