Berbatov Headlines 80m Summer Clearout
#1
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to sell Dimitar Berbatov.

The Sunday Mirror says Berbatov will head a sensational clear-out of £80m of Manchester United talent at the end of the season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has run out of patience with the £30.75m striker after 18 months of inconsistent performances.

And the United boss is also looking to offload underachieving trio Anderson, Nani and Zoran Tosic as well as unsettled central defender Nemanja Vidic.

It will signal the biggest overhaul of a United squad since 1995 when Ferguson dumped Paul Ince, Andrei Kanchelskis, Mark Hughes to clear the way for youngsters like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers.

A United insider said: “The four midfield players got a lot of criticism after the Leeds game, but the biggest underperformer was Berbatov.

“People say he’s got a great touch, and that isn’t in doubt, but this game is also about hunger and workrate.

“To put it bluntly, Berbatov doesn’t run around enough for this United team – and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the people that matter most.

Wow, that's some list! Hope Anderson stays though. Unlike 1995, which the article mentions, we really don't have ready replacements. I've heard the reserves have some great young mid-fielders and there's Pogba too who's new. Would be amazed if they're all of the same pedigree as Beckham and the rest.

This is such a difficult subject to address mid-season, as we really should get behind the team, especially in such a poor run of results. Having said that, maybe United do need to start planning for next season and the future sooner, rather than later.

It's time to take off the rose coloured specs and look at those players on the list.

Anderson - while he has great energy and enthusiasm, he is not a typical Manchester United player. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but he doesn't do it in the red shirt. There was a piece in the Sun (must be true) this week, where he admitted he is unfit and has not shown the amazing form he did at Porto. Unless he steps up, I would cash in on him.

Nani - Has had ample time to become a star at United. Lived in the shadow of CR7 and didn't have the balls to step out of it. He could have had so much. A dip in confidence and he never recovered.

Tosic - I've watched him many times for the reserves and he doesn't stand out for them. If he isn't head and shoulders above the players at that level, he won't do it in the PL. I saw him make his debut v Spurs last season and he looked average.

Vidic - should have been player of the year last season, but then was destroyed by Torres. He's not had the best of seasons this year, with injury and rumours affecting him. Maybe United could cash in on him, but not sure Wesley Brown and Jonny Evans are anywhere near the same level. KEEP him.

Rio - rumours surrounded him going in the summer, due to his age. We haven't found a decent replacement, so KEEP him, too.

Now may be the time to allow Paul Scholes to retire gracefully. He really doesn't have the legs for the PL and was found out against the Brummies. We could lose Gary Nev at the end of the season and I'm not sure that the twins are ready to step up just yet. A little naive, to say the least. We need O'Shea fit.

I think this thread will run and run...

Anderson:There is no way he is going!Fergie always said he will be the new scholes and i think he is great player this season. He was the same as Alonso his first season great 2nd poor but hopfully like Alonso he improves to being a super midfelider!Keep Him for an other 2 years and then we can judge
proper!

Nani:Yeah i agree about following shadow of Ronaldo and sed that at the start of the season and taught he would grow out of it also but no he hasnt he is so imature with the ball too greedy for my liken!SELL

Vidic and Rio:This is my view but get rid of them!Reasons:both scared of torres!injured way to much!out of the money we make from them we could get in Defenders like Chlien,Shawcross and Gary Cahil!

Berbatov:He needs a boost from us!!!Has the best true ball and first touch in todays game!NO REASON TO SELL BERBA NOW IS IT???

Tosic:couldnt care less he is crap!

I think Berba and Nani need to leave I have never liked them and would not be sad to see them go.

Anderson on the other hand would be sad to see him go like him I think he is a very likable character and puts in the odd good performance here and there.

I'm not really pushed on Tosic doesn't seem up to much.
