Manchester United Women FC Thread
#1
In the interests of balance, we should have a thread for the women's team.

And the first piece of news is that Ella Toone has signed a contract extension!  She has signed a contract extension with the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The 23-year-old forward joined United in 2018 as part of their inaugural FA Women's Championship winning side, and has gone on to score 43 goals and become the club's first centurion with 110 appearances.

Ella Toone is Manchester United Women's all-time leading goalscorer with 43 goals and the club's first centurion with 110 appearances; Toone, 23, won the European Championship with the Lionesses this summer, scoring the opening goal in the team’s 2-1 final victory over Germany

Manchester United reached their first Women's FA Cup final with a thrilling victory over Brighton.

Second-half substitute Rachel Williams slotted past Lydia Williams in the 89th minute to settle an end-to-end game.

Brighton opened the scoring in the first half through a Mary Earps own goal, with Leah Galton equalising for the hosts shortly after the break.

Alessia Russo put United ahead but the visitors levelled through Danielle Carter - before Williams struck.

The final will be at Wembley on May 14th

My wife and I were at Wembley on Sunday. it was a well-organised day out and the United fans were in good voice. both ends given over to each team, but generally, no segregation. A family atmosphere and no feel of trouble.

United started brightly and Ella Toone inches offside during the build up to the 'goal' scored after 22 seconds. shame. United played well in the first half, Chelsea in the second. Maybe not deserved defeat, but Chelsea are a strong squad.

I didn't like the use of VAR. Too clumsy and slow and no announcements to the crowd to tell us what was going on. Why not flag for an offside when there is no clear attack on goal?? Lots to learn.

Overall, disappointed with the result, but not with the passion and desire shown on the pitch. The ladies should be proud of themselves and use the whole experience as learning curve to go again and win the lot next year!

Arsenal are stepping up their bid to land Manchester United and England star Alessia Russo, after previously failing with a world-record offer

United have been in negotiations over a new deal with Alessia Russo for several months but risk losing her to Arsenal who maintain heavy interest and have held discussions with the England striker over a move when her contract expires this summer.. The risk grows with clubs in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and Europe also keen.

United and Spain full-back Ona Batlle could also leave on the expiry of her contract with Barcelona's long-term interest remaining.

An option to extend United goalkeeper Mary Earps' contract for another year has been exercised but they face a battle to keep her with several clubs keen to sign her in this window.

England striker Alessia Russo will leave Manchester United this summer on the expiry of her contract and is closing in on a move to Arsenal.

United turned down two world-record bids from Arsenal in January for the 24-year-old, with the second offer believed to be almost £500,000.

Russo, who won Euro 2022 with England last summer, is now available for free.

Manchester United can confirm that Ona Batlle will join FC Barcelona on completion of her contract at the end of June.

After joining United in summer 2020, the Spain international full-back made 77 appearances as a Red, scoring three goals. Batlle was a key part of this season’s historic campaign which saw Manchester United Women qualify for the Champions League for the first time, reach the Women’s FA Cup final and finish with the club’s highest-ever WSL points tally.

The loss of Ona Batlle and Alessia Russo is another clear sign of the inept management of the club. No plan for the men's team and now, no plan for the women, either!!!
