Will Rooney Outscore Sir Bobby?
#1
Wayne Rooney recently joined an elite group of players who have scored one hundred goals for Manchester United. He has since claimed that he wants to stay at the club forever, which has sparked comments from Gary Neville, who reckons Rooney could one day become our all time top scorer.

Rooney is currently on 102 club goals which is still some way behind Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249. Rooney’s strike rate is better than Charlton’s though, so if Rooney can stay fit and continue to thrive in his natural central position, who knows what he could achieve?

“There is a long time to go before he gets there but Wayne does have an opportunity to beat Bobby Charlton’s scoring record,” said Neville. “He will have to play a lot more games and stay clear of injury because that record has stood for many years and will be very difficult to break. But a player of his ability should score goals. He plays centre-forward for Manchester United. That points you in the right direction.”

well rooney is on 102 at the moment, and he is only 23 so he has at least 12 years left in him imagine the goals he'll get between now and then

i think its more than likely he could do hes got plenty of time left to do it, as long as he has no career ending injuries (touch wood)

Yes, especially if he plays as the main goalscorer for the rest of his career (ie not behind someone like Ronaldo).

I don't see why not! I think Wayne is going to get a solid 30 goals this year and some poor team will be hat tricked may be twice. The boy is just getting started! This is finally his team but i don't think his brilliance can be slowed, let alone stopped.

Absolutely. Anyone care to predict when his (next) hat-trick will be? I don't think it will be long in coming, the way he's playing.

Rooney needs consistency to stand any chance of getting Bobby's record.

It's very possible that Wayne will score more than Sir Bobby. What many people forget is that Wayne Rooney has scored over 100 goals despite spending a couple of years playing defensively to accomodate Ronaldo. Now that Rooney is the focal point of the team, the improvement is immediately noticeable.

I think Wayne can definitely get to the total as he is still young

Yeah Rooney has age on his side.

As long as his metatarsals remain untouched he can do it xD
