  Hello from Wisconsin!
Posted by: Inkling - 25-05-2013, 10:50 PM - Forum: Newbies - Replies (1)

I've never really been into football but recently because of college I've been playing a lot of FIFA and meeting others who keep introducing me to the world of English football here in Madison.
I hear Manchester United has a lot of history so I figure I'd butt heads with my roommates and support a club other than Liverpool and Arsenal.
Relatively new fan, even newer to English football so I'm still trying to wrap my head about the offside rule and all, especially club play styles and rivalries. Looking to learn about a new sport since we in the states don't learn much in particular about English football.
On another note, while browsing this forum I just found out that I should NOT refer to Manchester United as Man U. A good learning experience.

Hi everyone!
My name is Wendy! windywildwendy, lol.
Windy because I'm from Chicago which is very windy (it really is a windy city!!!).
I'm crazy fun, so my friends call me wild!
And Wendy because that's my name!
I have been a Man Utd fan for years (ever since David Beckham was there, lol).
So happy I get to be a part of this forum.
Don't think because I'm an American girl that I don't know about English football, I know a few things that may surprise you.
But, I'm still willing to learn more about my favorite team!

Glory, glory Man Utd Smile

  Manchester United cuts debt costs
Posted by: themarksquared - 24-05-2013, 04:53 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - No Replies

Good day, Red Devils.

We have some news regarding the club's debt costs. I'll be quoting only the important segments in article. Should you want to read the full article, here is the source.

Quote:Manchester United has struck a new loan deal to cut the amount of interest it pays on its huge debts.

Quote:The Premier League club, which is owned by the Glazer family, has refinanced £178m of outstanding debt, a move that should save it £10m a year.

Quote:It still has about £307m in debts, but has continued to enjoy on-field success under the Glazers, with five Premier League titles and one Champions League victory.

Quote:Its finances continue to be bolstered by TV revenues. In the 2012-13 season, it is reported to have made more than £60m - more than any other club.

Quote:Last year, the club paid about £50m in interest alone.

Quote:David Bick, chairman of Square1 consulting, told Radio 5 live that the deal meant Manchester United would now be paying off their debts "on more reasonable terms".

He said the club still had "a long way to go" in paying off its debts, but said the Glazers appeared to have made the most of the club's global presence, which has drawn revenue in from places such as East Asia.

"It's a massive global brand, they have extracted commercial income from all corners of the globe," he said.

Sad News: Former United Star, Brian Greenhoff Dies
Posted by: Noucamp99 - 23-05-2013, 11:51 AM - Forum: Man Utd History - Replies (5)

It was with sadness that I just read this sad news on the Sky Sports website:

Quote:Former Manchester United and England star Brian Greenhoff has died aged 60.

Greenhoff, who was born in Barnsley, joined United in 1968 and played in the same team as his brother Jimmy, who joined the club in 1976.

The central defender, capped 18 times for his country, scored 17 goals in 271 appearances for United and was part of the victorious FA Cup final team of 1977.

He joined Leeds United in 1979 but left when they were relegated three years later.

After brief spells in South Africa and Finland he returned to play for and coach Rochdale before calling time on his football career in 1983.

Manchester United said on their website:"Everyone at Manchester United is shocked and deeply saddened by the news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian's family at this difficult time."

Earlier a statement had been released to the Manchester Evening News by Greenhoff's family that said: "We regret to inform of Brian's passing this morning.

"Brian was a proud and much loved brother, husband of Maureen, father of Paul, Brian and Peter, grandfather to Jack, James and Harry and will be sorely missed by his family, who he made very proud in his distinguished life and career."

I remember listening on my radio to the United games in the 70s and being fascinated as a kid that brothers made it to play together at the same great side.

RIP Brian
