  Spurs close to Beckham deal
Posted by: rooneyisared - 07-01-2011, 04:10 PM - Forum: Other Football - Replies (2)

Quote:Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp hopes that former England captain David Beckham will have joined Spurs on a short-term loan deal by Sunday.

The London club have been speaking to Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham, 35, with the Americans understood to be open to his move.

"It will probably get done," said Redknapp. "The clubs are talking and there's a good chance it will happen."

Beckham's first match could be against his former club Manchester United.

Redknapp hopes Beckham will come to watch the club's FA Cup third round match against Charlton on Sunday, before being available to face league leaders United at White Hart Lane the following Sunday.

"I think he could be here on Sunday, possibly, if what I'm being told on the grapevine is right," said Redknapp, who learnt of Beckham's interest via his former Tottenham footballer son Jamie.

"Hopefully he will come to the game. I'm not 100% sure but he could be here on Sunday. It's just sorting out the length of the loan [now] and one or two other bits and pieces."

Beckham could play up to 10 games for Spurs before he is due to return for the start of the Major League Soccer season when LA Galaxy face the Seattle Sounders on 15 March.

  Great Night for United
Posted by: Hyltz'. - 05-01-2011, 10:19 PM - Forum: The Lounge - No Replies

What a great night for us :~

Wolves 1 - 0 Chelsea
Arsenal 0 - 0 Man City

And to put the cream on the top :~

Blackburn 3 - 1 Liverpool
And to make things worse, guess who's favourite son of scouce missed a penalty.

The onus is with us now to prove that it's no fluke that we're top dogs at the moment, so it's time to capitalise on others squandered opportunities.
It's up to us to make the most of our games in hand and to find an improvement in our performance to take us through the rest of the season.

Star Fletcher: Rooney is The Key!
Posted by: ManUtdPeople - 04-01-2011, 12:28 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - No Replies

Darren Fletcher is convinced Wayne Rooney is responsible for Dimitar Berbatov's success this season.

Berbatov has netted 15 goals this term, with 13 of those coming when he's started alongside Rooney. And that statistic, Fletcher says, is no coincidence.

Wayne Rooney ............................... Darren Fletcher ............................... Dimitar Berbatov

“Having Wayne back alongside him has definitely helped Berba,” Fletcher told ManUtd.com.

“Wayne's been supplying him with some great passes and great assists. This season Dimitar's got himself into the box more and once he's got himself into those scoring positions he's been a lot more ruthless. It's great to see and we hope it continues.

“He and Wayne have a good partnership and we need the two of them scoring goals if we want to achieve success this year.”

Both players have netted over the festive break – Berbatov three times and Rooney once, his first goal from open play since March 2010. There's no hiding the fact that Rooney's strikerate has dropped in 2010/11, but Fletcher insists Wayne's contribution shouldn't be measured solely by goals.

“Wayne's contribution since he's come back from his latest injury has been fantastic. He's been full of energy, he's been dropping into dangerous areas, putting in some great crosses, playing some great forward passes to Berba...

“Even if he's not scoring goals himself he's still doing a great job and he's an important part of the team.”

Star Paul Scholes - My Favourite Man Utd Player
Posted by: coolazz - 01-01-2011, 11:56 AM - Forum: Man Utd News - Replies (6)

My favorite player of all time is Paul Scholes. This is because he is a true midfield magician, he dictates the midfield and the game is all at his feet. He can change the pace of the whole game if he wants. The way he sits in his quarter-back role and sprays 60-70 yard balls out to the wings, or finds that defense splitting through ball no one else saw coming. His role has changed now obviously because of his age, Paul Scholes is not the box to box player he once was. But he has adapted so well like no other player really has in this generation.

Paul's energy is more conserved, but his style has completely changed, he lets the younger lads do the running while he sits back like the master. I haven't eve mentioned his shot, which is one of the most deadly strikes in world football, he can score a screamer from 30 yards into the top corner, or have the composure to get round players in the box and slot it into the bottom corner. The way he manipulates the ball is a dream, he can chip, scoop or spray the ball so effortlessly, it looks like he's just doing it for fun and taking the mick. Remember his scoop over the AC Milan defense in the first leg in 2007? He has chipped many keepers with his effortless way of getting the ball in the air.

Off the field is where Paul Scholes shows his true colours, a true gentleman. He may shy away from media attention, but that's because he knows what the media are like. He just wants to play football, he's always the last person into Old Trafford on the match day, and the first person out, he just wants to play football, nothing else. Credit to him for staying out of the spotlight, he's never been in any headlines, no fuss, just gets on with it. Saying that, he does deserve all the media attention that would come his way if he was more open to it, he's the most under rated player of the Premier League generation. But Paul is too modest to want any of the attention. Some pundits recognise what he's done, most don't. But it's the players who have played with him who all pick out Scholes as a legend. In many interviews with current United players about training, they all say they want Scholes in their team, because his team always wins, it just shows the professionalism of Paul.

Man Utd will never have another player like him, he can't be replaced, and when he does go, he will be sorely missed. He can't play every game now of course because of his age, but watch him in the next game he does play, and his awareness, the way he shifts the ball, his movement to create space. It's a joy to watch, you wonder how he just did that, thanks for everything Paul, and may it continue for a while longer.
