Fergie rules out major Manchester United transfer moves
Posted by: sypher - 01-01-2010, 09:33 PM - Forum: Transfer Talk - Replies (41)

Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out the possibility of making major additions to his Manchester United squad during the January transfer window.

At the depth of his defensive injury crisis, it seemed inevitable Ferguson would bring in new faces to bolster his side's Premier League title challenge.

"Inevitably, people look to this month's transfer window as a solution to our injury worries but it is not the answer," Ferguson told United Review.
Sol Campbell was among those being mentioned, only for Ferguson to instantly reject the theory that he might be interested in a 36-year-old who played in just one League Two game since leaving Portsmouth at the end of last season.

Although United still have injury problems, Nemanja Vidic and Wes Brown turned out at Hull last weekend and were fit enough to face Wigan at Old Trafford as the Red Devils recorded only their second clean sheet in six games during a five-goal romp.

With Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand also nearing recovery, Ferguson sees no need to spend any more of the £80 million he received from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo last summer.

He added: "If someone could give me the name of a really good centre-half who would accept a three-month contract then I would jump at the chance. But where do you find a player like that?
"A decent player would be looking for a three-year contract and I don't need that kind of addition.

"It is difficult enough leaving good players out of the team without adding another to the mix, so I won't be looking for a senior player to ease our defensive crisis.

"Hopefully the worst is over anyway and we can get some stability at the back. Once we do that I am sure we will make up the ground we have lost."

  Ferguson to stick with youth
Posted by: sypher - 01-01-2010, 09:29 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - Replies (8)

Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to stick with his youngsters for next Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

The Manchester United manager has used the competition to give the less experienced members of his squad some much-needed experience in recent years and that trend has continued this term.

"I will stick with the principle of picking young players on Wednesday," said the United chief. "That is what we have done in the Carling Cup and we are not changing that."

The stance is bad news for Leeds, who head over the Pennines on Sunday to face United for the first time since 2004 knowing the champions will unleash all their big guns on them in the FA Cup.

It will not prevent 9,000 travelling fans helping to create a white-hot atmosphere that will be a new experience for Michael Carrick, who cannot wait.

"Experiencing those types of feisty atmospheres are why you play football," he said.

"Rivalries like that add extra spice. It is great for the fans and good for the players.

"No matter where you play, or whether the atmosphere is for or against you, it is a great feeling to play.

"Besiktas was very hostile when we went there earlier this season but it was still terrific to play in.

"Leeds are bringing a lot of fans and we are looking forward to it. It should be a cracking game."

Funny Jokes. Smile

Life After Death
A boss asked one of his employees, "Do you believe in life after death?"
"Yes, sir," replied the new employee. "I thought you would," said the boss. "Yesterday after you left to go to your grandmother's funeral, she stopped in to see you!"

Support a Family
The prospective son-in-law was asked by his girl friend's father, "Son, can you support a family?"
"Well, no, sir," he replied. "I was just planning to support your daughter. The rest of you have to fend for yourselves."

The Water Pistol
My five year old son squealed with delight when he opened his birthday present from his grandmother. It was a water pistol. He promptly ran to the sink to fill it.

"Mom," I said. I'm surprised at you. "Don't you remember how we used to drive you crazy with water pistols?" My mom smiled and said, "Yes, I remember."
