Class Of 92 Get PFA Merit Award
Posted by: WatchMUFC - 01-05-2013, 06:40 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - No Replies

The PFA Merit Award was given to Manchester United's class of '92 at Sunday night's PFA Awards.

Ryan Giggs, Eric Harrison, Sir Alex Ferguson, Paul Scholes, George Switzer, Kevin Pilkington, Phil Neville, Chris Casper, Nicky Butt, John O'Kane and Gary Neville were all present to receive the award.

This group of players won the FA Youth Cup in 1992, with Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Ben Thornley, Simon Davies and Colin McKee scoring over two legs. 15,000 people were in attendance at Old Trafford for the victorious second leg.

"We trialled in Albert Park every night," Ferguson said. "We were turning top players away and we ended up with this mob! No club in the country is better at producing players than Manchester United."

  Falcao Interested In Joining United
Posted by: WatchMUFC - 01-05-2013, 06:34 PM - Forum: Transfer Talk - Replies (4)

Over the past few months Radamel Falcao has been linked with many clubs but Manchester United seem to be high on the list of those that are interested.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and FC Barcelona are said to be interested in 27-year-old Falcao, and after asking for advice Asprilla has suggested that he made the move to Old Trafford if he wants to win trophies.

Today's quotes from from the Daily Mail and are as follows:

"We were talking and he asked me my opinion on who he should join. He knows that every big club in the world wants him.
He is not a player motivated by money – what he wants is somewhere that his family will be happy and where he will have success."

"With teams like Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City they have good times then they have bad times – that is why I told him he must choose Manchester United. Every season they are challenging – and if he wants success that is where I have told him to go."

"Also they don’t have all the behaviour away from the field – with changing coaches every season.
They are steady in all that they do – and a well run club at every level. He is a real family guy – and Radamel will appreciate that and the way that Sir Alex Ferguson protects his players like family."

Asprilla also goes on to say that Manchester United would be "unstoppable" up-front with a Falcao and van Persie partnership.

He added:

It is difficult for me to explain how good he is – he is the best finisher in the world. The only striker who has played in the Premier League who is on his finishing level is Alan Shearer.

"If he signs for Manchester United – he would be their missing piece in the Champions League."

Imagine van Persie and Falcao it would be unstoppable.

Star RVP - Record Breaker
Posted by: Noucamp99 - 29-04-2013, 11:34 AM - Forum: Man Utd News - Replies (3)

Robin van Persie's penalty at Arsenal was his 25th goal in the Barclays Premier League this season following his summer arrival at Old Trafford.

Remarkably, it means the Holland international has scored more league goals in his first campaign at United than any other player has previously posted in the club's history.

The record was previously held by Brian McClair, who hit 24 in 40 league matches back in 1987/88 – one more than Denis Law (1962/63) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (2001/02) managed.

Others with notable first seasons in terms of goalscoring include Enoch West (19 in 1910/11), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (18 in 1996/97) and Dwight Yorke (18 in 1998/99).

However, Robin has a tough task to beat van Nistelrooy's overall goal record in his first season. His fellow Dutchman bagged 36 in all competitions, seven ahead of the current no.20.

For sure the difference this year, between winning and runners up.

I thought I would have a little look around the online stories relating to United's record-breaking 20th title.

Obviously, United are even bigger news this week.

The Telegraph online has a slideshow of the 20 titles, showing each one pictorially, with a little text:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/footb...on=gallery

Similarly, the Daily Mail online has a nice set of photos to accompany the same style of story:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footbal...umphs.html

The BBC covers the story from a slightly different angle, by breaking down this year's title statisically:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22264686

GOLD TRAFFORD is the Sun's headline, again using lots of photos:

If you look abroad (I am in the UK), foreign agencies are also reporting on the World News of United's title win.

The Japan Times gives a flavour of the 20th title win:

http://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2013/...gue-crown/

It is also big news in Thailand:

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews/...20th-title

United have a massive fan base in China, so the news is big there, too:

http://english.cntv.cn/program/newshour/...4774.shtml

ABC news in Oz carry another report:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-04-23/ma...le/4645036

I guess that is what it feels like to be a Global Phenomenon?

Feel free to add your links / news for the 20th title here, too.

  United Transfer Rumours and Gossip

This is the place to add any rumours, gossip or other UNITED-related news about possible transfers.

Rooney off to PSG in the summer?

There are reports in the papers this morning that Wazza has signed a deal with PSG and will be joining them for around £25m. This is in the Sun and the Mirror, but the Telegraph are reporting that he is actually due to sit down with United and thrash out a new deal.

Wonder what one is true?
