Van der Sar refuses Dutch request
Posted by: john - 20-03-2009, 09:07 AM - Forum: The Lounge - Replies (5)

Manchester United keeper Edwin van der Sar has turned down a request from Dutch manager Bert van Marwijk to come out of international retirement.

Van der Sar, 38, did agree to a similar request in October 2008 and played in wins over Iceland and Norway.

But, with Van Marwijk again hit by a keeper injury crisis, Van der Sar has refused this time around.

"I knew beforehand what the answer would be, but I called him anyway," Van Marwijk told a Dutch newspaper.

Van der Sar quit the international set-up after Euro 2008 and is the most capped Dutch footballer of all time with 130 appearances.
Van Marwijk said he asked him to play in upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Scotland on 28 March and Macedonia on 1 April "against my better judgment".

He will name his squad on Friday and he is likely to have to pick a starter from keepers Maarten Stekelenburg, Henk Timmer and Michel Vorm.

Stekelenburg is the most likely candidate, even though he has only just returned from injury and has failed to force his way back into the Ajax team.

You definately need a 'General Football' Forum which would probably be used more than a Specific 'Man United' Forum purely because fans like to talk about football in general.

You could create a Non-Football Forum, for other subjects that fans like to talk about

Just some ideas Tongue

Why We Don't Say Man U
Posted by: WatchMUFC - 17-03-2009, 07:11 PM - Forum: The Lounge - Replies (196)

ManU is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "ManU" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"ManU ManU went on a plane ManU ManU never came back again"

and..

"ManU Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").

I hope this makes it clearer that saying manU is an insult, particularly to the older supporters and to see United fans using it now is shameful. I hope a few might read this, understand and spread the word.

So... Please REFRAIN from using this term ever again!

  New Jersey Rumour
Posted by: WatchMUFC - 17-03-2009, 05:53 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - Replies (50)

UNITED face another season with the AIG logo on their shirts despite the woes of the American financial giants.

United are seeking a new sponsor to replace the £56.5million deal which expires in June 2010.

The world champs are confident of securing an agreement by the autumn.

But the new strip is in production with the AIG logo in place. Yet AIG is set to be renamed to AIU, which would leave United with a redundant sponsor.

Company chief executive Edward Liddy said: “The AIG name is so wounded we’ll probably have to change it.”

Here We have a sneak preview of United's Jersey next season.

Is it real or is it just a fake we don't know yet.

  Vidic Gets 2 Match Ban
Posted by: WatchMUFC - 17-03-2009, 03:31 PM - Forum: Man Utd News - Replies (17)

Nemanja Vidic has been banned for two matches following his dismissal in Saturday's unmentionable result.

The In-form centre back received a straight red when he took down Steven Gerrard outside the box.

As it was his second red card of the season - the other also came against Liverpool at Anfield in September - Vidic is suspended for two games.

He misses Saturday's trip to Fulham and the visit of Aston Villa on 5 April.

United's game against Villa will be moved to 4 April if Sir Alex Ferguson's side are in action in the Champions League on 7 April.
