Phil Neville sent to Spain on spying mission |

Manchester United are eyeing up a potential double raid on Real Madrid in the January transfer window, with Sami Khedira and Angel di Maria their targets.
The Premier League champions are keen to make up for a disappointing summer transfer window in which Marouane Fellaini was the only senior professional to arrive.
Manchester United did try to buy Khedira in the summer, but Real Madrid blocked the German's exit.
However, David Moyes' men have not given up on Khedira and want to add Di Maria to their shopping cart too, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.

Just 10 of my favourite quotes from SAF’s illustrious 27 years as Manchester United manager.
1. “Only true champions come out and show their worth after defeat- and I expect us to do that”(Sir Alex Ferguson after been beaten by Arsenal for a second time in the league 2006 season}
2. “You’re a fuckin’ bottler Incey! You cannae handle the stage, can you? You are a fuckin’ bottler!” (Alex Ferguson to Paul Ince at half-time, Barcelona, 1994.)
3. “I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Football. Bloody hell.”(Alex Ferguson after winning the European Cup on May 26th, 1999.)
4. “I thought the first 45 minutes were the best of my time as a manager.”
(Alex Ferguson after United had come back from 2-0 down to beat Juventus 3-2 in Turin, Italy in what was later heralded as one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history.)
5. “I’m privileged to have followed Sir Matt because all you have to do is to try and maintain the standards that he set so many years ago.”
(Alex Ferguson after equalling Sir Matt Busby’s Premiership record)
6. “At the end of this game, the European Cup will be only six feet away from you and you’ll not even able to touch it if we lose. And for many of you that will be the closest you will ever get. Don’t you dare come back in here without giving your all”.
o Alex Ferguson’s half time team talk during the 1999 European Cup Final
7. “It would have been Sir Matt Busby’s 90th birthday today, but I think he was up there doing a lot of kicking.”(Alex Ferguson post match after winning the European Cup 1999)
8. “My greatest challenge is not what’s happening at the moment, my greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their fucking perch. And you can print that.”(Sir Alex Ferguson responding to Alan Hansen questioning Sir Alex Ferguson’s future as Manchester United manager in September 2002 in the Guardian.)
9. “They say he’s an intelligent man, right? Speaks five languages! I’ve got a 15-year-old boy from the Ivory Coast who speaks five languages!” (Sir Alex Ferguson on Arsene Wenger)
10. “If he was an inch taller he’d be the best centre half in Britain. His father is 6ft 2in - I’d check the milkman.” (Sir Alex Ferguson on Gary Neville)

Hi,
I have posted a few times on here but realised that I haven’t yet said hello to the community.
My username is Silverhoop – this is derived from the fact that my hair is now silver (Grey) and that I was born a hoop (Celtic supporter). I say born a hoop as I did not have any choice in the matter. My Father, Mother, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and Grandparents were/are all Celtic supporters.
I was born and raised in the east end of Glasgow where everyone is a Celtic supporter. So, in essence I was a Celtic supporter before I was born.
When I was about 10 year old my Mother bought me a football top for a school visit to London. I wanted a Real Madrid top but as she couldn’t get one she instead got a friend to buy me the United away top which was white with black and red trim. The reason she picked this was,
A – Because it was white like the Madrid top and
B - Because she held a fancy for Lou Macari (An ex-Celt).
It was at this time I started to keep an eye out for United.
78-79 season culminated in a run to the FA cup final, and what a final. Arsenal dominated and took a 2 goal lead at half time. Second half saw an onslaught from United and finally 2 goals. McQueen in the 86th followed by McIlroy in the 88th. Albeit a late winner from Arsenal (Sunderland 89th) took the cup to London but I was hooked.
For the first time in my life I felt distraught at a football result and this was the team that I had chosen, not one I was born into.
The following season they finished in 2nd place behind a Liverpool team who were dominating Europe, but for all the Hughes, Dalglish, Toshack etc United were fielding players of the calibre of Jordan, McQueen, McIlroy, Albiston, Bailey, Buchan, Moran, Nicholl, Coppell, Macari, Thomas, Greenhoff and their new signing that year – Ray Wilkins.
How could you not love this team?
Over the years, like most of us, I have saw some greats and some poor all pulling on the shirt, but one thing has remained constant – The love of United.
Feel free to say Hi and I hope we all enjoy the community on here and continue in our support of the greatest team in the world.

Andre Mariner and that Penalty |

Not here to slate Mariner but how ridiculous was that penalty award.
I know it was made worse for the timing of the award but I have watched numerous times and Ramires is falling before he even gets close to the WBA player.
Big crowd, big appeal and Mariner's bottle went.
Am I missing something? Did anyone think it was a pen?
I know we have all had a few dodgy awards in the past but I think this is one of the worst that I have ever seen.
